About Suzanne Kemplay

I grew up in Edinburgh in an environment that surrounded me in art. My parents were independent dealers in 20th century Scottish Art specialising in the work of the Edinburgh Group which included my Grandfather, Eric H M Robertson (1887-1941) and his first wife Cecile Walton (1891-1956).

I graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 1988 with a degree in Drawing & Painting. I have been painting on and off ever since and have exhibited through a number of  Galleries within Scotland.  My studio is based in Edinburgh.

Having worked for a number of years in the charity sector, in recent years I have had more time to focus on my art and have been looking to grow and challenge myself as an artist.  I very much enjoy teaching part time with the Arienas Collective and Birchwood Art Studio, both located in Edinburgh. 

For many years my focus has been on Still Life  and Portraiture.  Some of the painting techniques I uses include elements of those being used in the 17th/18th century but equally there are influences of 20th century Scottish Art that seek to maintain a contemporary element that reflects my story.
